I recently met someone who use to know Nixzmary Brown. This lady would see Nixzmary in the park and she told me that when Nixzmary saw her she would run up to her and hug her and kiss her.
She said Nixzmary appeared happy and you couldn't tell that anything was wrong. She said maybe her child like instincts allowed her to forget what she faced at home.
She said she saw bruises but didn't know they were from Cesar and would have said something if she had known.
She said she wrapped a bracelet around Nixzmary's wrist that she had just won in a store machine. Nixzmary liked it. She told me that she still has the other half to the bracelet. She also said that she's thinks maybe Cesar might have taken the bracelet from Nixzmary.
I asked her what Nixzmary's voice sounded like. She said Nixzmary had the voice of a little angel. That it was squeeky and high pitched.
She said Nixzmary was like a little doll.
I asked what she remembered Nixzmary wearing. She said the last time she saw Nixzmary she was wearing a purple tank top, jeans and little Strawberry Shortcake sneakers.
She also told me that she and Nixzmary would pick yellow dandelions in the park and that Nixzmary always liked the smell of them. She asked me if when I go to Nixzmary's grave next, if I could bring Nixzmary a dandelion for her. She said Nixzmary will know who it's from. I told her that I would.
Hearing that Nixzmary would pick yellow dandelions in the park was something that made Nixzmary all the more real to me. To often we hear these names of famous child abuse victims but we never really identify with them as actual, real human beings that you would see when you go outside walking. People that actually walked this Earth.
Nixzmary Brown is not just a name. She was a little girl with Strawberry Shortcake sneakers who use to go into the park and pick dandelions. A little girl who lit up when kind lady gave her a bracelet. She was real. She was a real live human being who you might have seen in the park or out walking in your neighborhood. She was alot more than just a famous name. There's a real live human being behind that name.
